Frequently Asked Questions
What is Stagelights Mainstage?
Stagelights Mainstage is our annual Summer Intensive for students who are wishing for an immersive performance experience. In three weeks, students put on a full length production, working hard as an ensemble to create characters, tell a story, and use song and dance as compelling mediums to develop a show.
Do you need to audition for Mainstage?
No - we are a non-audition based program. We believe all students deserve to be onstage to learn the art of theatre. To cast our show, we work closely with the students in the first couple days of camp to see what characters would push their skill sets to the next level. But it’s important to remember that we are an ensemble-based program. That means we don’t focus on “leads”—we work with each and every student to help tell the story and create magical moments onstage!
Do we need to supply or pay for costumes?
No - Stagelights provides all costume pieces. For dress rehearsals and performances, we ask students to wear a black base underneath their costume, particularly if they have quick changes. Examples of excellent items for a base include leotards, tank tops, t-shirts, shorts and leggings, depending on the costume pieces the student is wearing.
What is included in the cost for the camp?
Many families are surprised when we tell them that it is VERY pricey to put on a full musical production. To do a show, we must buy performance rights from companies such as Music Theatre International and Theatrical Rights Worldwide. We also pay to rent performance spaces, buy costumes and set pieces, and we of course have our fantastic professional staff members who work with your students each day.
In addition to helping us cover these costs, you will receive a certain number of comp tickets for each performance. PLUS your student is receiving a full camp day filled with fun but also professional work in acting, singing and dancing.
Are scholarships or discounts available?
We never turn away a student due to lack of money. Please email us at stagelightstheaterco@gmail.com to inquire about scholarship opportunities.
We also offer a 10% sibling discount with one full paying student.
