Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I register for camps?

A: Registration is done by phone or online via our Parent Portal. Click on the “Register” button at the top of your screen, or contact us: (336) 370-6337, stagelightstheaterco@gmail.com.

Q: Where will camp and the performances be held?

A: Our camps occur in two locations: our Stagelights studio in downtown Greensboro at 314 S Greene Street, right next to the Carolina Theatre, and at the Congregational United Church of Christ at 400 W Radiance Drive. Our Stagelights Mainstage musical performances will be at the Van Dyke Performance Space in downtown Greensboro.

Q: When is camp payment due? How do I pay?

A: A $50 deposit is due for all camps upon registration. This deposit is then applied to your final balance, which is due one week before the start of camp. New students will also owe a non-refundable $25 registration fee. All payments occur via your Parent Portal that you created at registration, where ACH, card or PayPal are accepted. You have the option of signing up for auto-payments, which will automatically draft your saved card or bank account one week before camp. If you would like to pay via check or cash, you can stop by our studio in person or mail checks to Stagelights LLC, 314 S Greene Street, Greensboro NC 27401.

Q: I need to cancel my camp registration. How late can I cancel and receive a refund?

A: A refund of your $50 deposit will be given for all camp cancellations up to one week before the start of camp. After that, we will refund all camp payments except the $50 deposit. Cancellations during the camp week receive no refunds. The $25 registration fee is non-refundable. We must receive notice of cancellation via the phone or in writing at (336) 370-6337, stagelightstheaterco@gmail.com.

Q: What should my child bring to camp?

A: All students will need to pack a snack, lunch (except for Drama Llama camp), a water bottle (or 2!), a pencil, and crayons/colored pencils/markers. We highly encourage students to wear jazz shoes, although it’s not a requirement unless the student is enrolled in Mainstage. They will not be allowed to wear street shoes on our dance floor at our Stagelights studio, so socks or barefeet are an alternative. Camps at the Congregational United Church of Christ require any sort of closed toe shoe. Please have your students wear clothes they can easily move in throughout the day, with long hair pulled back.

Q: What will a typical camp day look like?

A: We usually start our morning with a warmup, such as acting games or body warmups. We then work on scenes, songs and dances throughout the day, with breaks for snack and lunch. Your child may not be in absolutely every scene or song in a show, but watching other students work is another great learning tool in theater!

Q: My child is not able to attend all of the camp week. Can we still participate?

A: Yes, if a student needs to miss a day of camp due to travel or another obligation, we will work around this commitment. Please let us know as early as possible so we can plan accordingly.

Q: Do you offer early drop off and late pick up?

A: We do not offer extra camp hours. However, you may drop off starting at 8:30am (8:45am for Drama Llama) and pick up as late as 2:30pm (4:30pm for Mainstage Intensives, 12:15pm for Drama Llama).

Q: Do you offer any discounts or scholarships?

A: Yes! If your family is in need of a scholarship, please reach out to us so we can help your child attend camp. We never want money to be a hindrance to students who are interested in the performing arts! We also offer the following summer discounts:

  •     Register for one camp, receive 10% off a second camp (if you register for Mainstage as your second camp, the discount will apply to the week-long camp)

  •       Register for two camps, receive 15% off a third camp week

  •       Sibling discount – 10% off with one full paying student

Q: How do you decide what role my child will have in the show?

A: At Stagelights, we do not do formal theater auditions—rather, we assess the students when we first meet them to see what roles will help push them to be better performers! These assessments involve character movement and improvisation, learning a song and/or dance, and reading different parts from our script. We never force students to sing a solo or speak a line if they are uncomfortable with doing so, but we encourage all students to participate!

Q: My child brought home her script, and she only has one line in the show. Is this all she will do the whole time?

A: No! At Stagelights, we are an ensemble based program, meaning we do not focus on just the “leads” or “main roles”. Our goal is to teach actors how to work as a team to put on a full production—often students will have multiple roles in a show, be involved in many songs, and may even act as an extra character in certain scenes. We promise your students will be amazed how much of the show they are in, no matter what role they are!

Q: Where can I park downtown?

A: Parking is available at any metered spots, at the Greene Street Parking Deck, or at the Elm/Greene and Elm/McGee surface lots. All students will be dropped off and picked up at the front door. Please note that you may not park in the Carolina Theatre parking lot.
